University College of Medical Sciences, popularly known as UCMS, recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI), was established in 1971. The classes began in the Department of Chemistry at Delhi University, North Campus, by the constant efforts made by the Health Ministry of Delhi. It had its clinical postings at Meerut Medical College, which later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital and finally, it is associate with Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital

About USPThe institution was set up to provide medical education to qualified students as the two existing medical colleges of Delhi i.e. MAMC and LHMC were unable to provide an opportunity to the aspiring masses. During its inception in the year 1971, the college started in the makeshift Department of Chemistry at North Campus, Delhi University. Later, the University College of medical sciences was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in South Delhi, however, in the year 1986, it was shifted to its present location at Dilshad Garden and is currently associated with Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.

University College of Medical Sciences & GTB Hospital, New Delhi Placements 2025After the final year is cleared every student has to do a year-long internship in the hospital associated with the college which is GTB hospital for UCMS. Students get a lot of clinical exposure there. Placements are not there in MBBS colleges. Most people like to pursue Post Graduation i.e. MD/MS after completing MBBS for which there is the entrance exam of NEET - PG (To become NEXT soon). Post-graduation in UCMS has a stipend of 70k-80k depending on the year in which the person is. Post-graduation is a three-year course. Following Post-graduation, a person can apply for the post of Senior Resident (SR) in a hospital or further prepare for NEET - SS for a super - specialty in a field. Even after MBBS, a person can apply for the post of Junior Resident (JR).

The campus is spread over 89 acres. UCMS provides good educational and medical facilities. The campus includes an academic block, library, conference block, a spacious outpatient department, ward, OT, etc. The hospital has a capacity of around 1500 beds with ICU, CCU, and OT facilities.
The college building is well maintained and air-conditioned. The hostels although spacious are not air-conditioned. The doctors' canteen is quite affordable and the food is also nice. Being in medical college definitely means having medical facilities 24/7.
