Somaiya Vidyavihar is an private university located in the Vidyavihar suburb of Mumbai. It is the second largest campus in Mumbai, superseded only by the Powai campus of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. It is approximately of 60 acres. The entire campus is owned and operated by the 'Somaiya Trust'

The Somaiya Vidyavihar Complex was founded in 1959 by late Shri K.J. Somaiya (1902-1999). Endowed with a sharp business acumen, a balanced perspective and a social bent of mind, Karamshibhai set up the Somaiya Trust in 1953 for furthering his dream of shaping young minds through quality education. For this purpose he bought a large area of land at Ghatkopar, then considered to be distant, meagrely populated.

About USPSomaiya Vidyavihar University is one of India’s most popular group of colleges offering over 222 courses through its 34 institutes. Shri KJ Somaiya set up the Somaiya Trust in 1953 and Somaiya Vidyavihar Complex in 1959. In the past six decades, the Trust has grown into a set of 34 institutions imparting education in Humanities, Engineering, Education, Medicine, Management, Pure Sciences and Mass Communication. In 2019, the Maharashtra Cabinet granted permission to Somaiya Trust to set up a self-financing university. The trust then grouped its colleges and institute into Somaiya Vidyavihar University. Somaiya Vidyavihar University is recognised by the UGC. NAAC has accredited Somaiya Vidyavihar University’s several colleges Grade A. The K J Somaiya Institute of Management boasts of AIU, SAQS, AACSB, NBA (PGDM & MMS) & Bureau Veritas accreditations
