Government Medical College, Jammu (GMC) was established in the year 1973 to provide medical education and health service to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. This institution was initiated with the sole purpose to train fifty MBBS students annually & to serve as a referral for Jammu hospital. Presently, the seating volume has been rise up to 150 students annually. The college has an animal house with 40-50 animals in the college building for the practice of students of PG's & UG's. The college offers M.B.B.S. and Post-Graduate training courses. Over the years, GMC, Jammu has increased its intake and made rapid changes to improve medical education. The college is associated with hospitals including Sir. Col. R.N.Chopra Nursing Home, Medical College Hospital, CD Hospital, SMGS Hospital, etc. There are 800 doctors, 1000 Paramedical Staff, and 1500 Class-III & IV employees working in the college and its associated hospitals.
