In the meantime Government Medical College started functioning from Prayaas building, Sector 38, Chandigarh with General Hospital, Sector 16 as an attached teaching hospital. The College was granted provisional affiliation for the MBBS course by the Panjab University.

Government Medical College & Hospital is situated in Chandigarh in Chandigarh state of India. Established in 1991, it is accredited from MCI and it is affiliated to Punjabi University. GMCH, Chandigarh offers 46 courses across 5 streams namely Paramedical, Medical, Science, Nursing, Dental and across 6 degrees like MBBS, BSc, BDS, MD, MS (Surgery). GMCH campus is spread over 37 Acres. Hostel facility is not available for its students. Additional campus facilities such as Auditorium, Counselling, Hospital, Library, Medical Facilities, Sports, Cafeteria , Laboratories, Hostel are also there. b'Government Medical College & Hospital' accepts National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test-(NEET-UG) for admission.

And you can get a placement according to you, whether you want to practice privately or do a government job. As it is under government sothe education is cheap and internship of 365 days is compulsory for which you get a stipend of 31000/month. 1 year of internship stipend is given to interns on monthly basis stipend is also given to postgraduate students stipend also given to senior residents and and tutors also to professors.
