The history of Tbilisi State Medical University begins on June 17, 1918, when the Faculty of Medicine was opened by the decision of the Board of Professors of Tbilisi State University (the first university in the Caucasus), which had been established a few months earlier. On June 10, 1930, as a result of the reorganization of Tbilisi State University, the Tbilisi State Medical Institute was established. Accordingly, the history of the independent existence of Tbilisi State Medical University is approaching a century, and its academic history already counts more than a century and is the foundation of medical education in Georgia. Tbilisi State Medical University has long established itself as an institution with an unwavering commitment to the promotion of high academic quality of knowledge and research, democratic governance, transparent management, and academic freedom. It is these core principles that ensure the maintenance of high standards of rapidly developing medical education and healthcare, and the constant pursuit of excellence.
